JULITA WÓJCIK

An artist and a performer, she is responsible for the famous rainbow in the Saviour Square in Warsaw (Tęcza / The Rainbow; 2012-2015), the crocheted block of flats (Falowiec / Wavy Block; 2006), or the potato peeling project (Obieranie ziemniaków / Peeling Potatoes; 2001) in the Zachęta – National Gallery of Art in Warsaw. Her works are often shown in Poland and abroad. Recently, she has had two solo exhibitions, i.e. Bez widoków / Without a View in Gdansk City Gallery (2016) and Niedzielne popołudnie / A Sunday Afternoon in the State Art Gallery in Sopot (2018). In 1997, she graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdansk (sculpture faculty) under the supervision of professor Franciszek Duszeńko (1997). She was awarded numerous scholarships by the Ministry of Culture (1995/6, 2001, 2003, 2005, 2007), Fundacja Kultury (2001), the city of Gdansk (2002, 2018), and the Marshal of the Pomorskie Voivodeship (2003). She received the Paszport Polityki award (2012) and the Royal Scottish Academy Award (2013). She was a resident in the following projects: Art in General (NYC; 2006), Visegrad Found (Prague; 2010), Megaproject Brazil by Adam Mickiewicz Institute (Belo Horizonte; 2016). Her works are part of the public collections of Zachęta – National Gallery of Art. (Warsaw), Muzeum Sztuki (Łódź), National Museum (Warsaw), NOMUS – National Museum (Gdansk), The HorseCross (Perth/Scotland), The Israel Museum (Jerusalem/Israel). Her works often deal with social and political issues: Pozamiatać po włókniarkach / To Sweep Up After Textile Workers (Łódź; 2003), Bogactwo / The Wealth (Katowice; 2011), Bezwidokówki / No-View Postcards (2012, 2016), or Wróżby ekonomiczne / Economic Premonitions (Belo Horizonte/Brasil; 2016). The idea of economic oppression permeates her recent project, i.e. Ekonomiczne epitafia / Economic Epitaphs, which will be shown at the forgotten cemetery on the Galgenberg hill.

An artist and an electronic and improvised music producer, he has created sound installations, radio shows, as well as music for theatre, museums, and public spaces. He plays in niski szum, MAPA, and Trys Saulés. He participated in workshops in Poland and abroad hosted by Lê Quan Ninh, Andrew Sharpley, John Butcher, and Robin Minard. He is a member of the Polish Society for Electroacoustic Music. A laureatte of the Netmage International Multimedia Festival in Bologna, he was also awarded scholarshpis from Berlin University of Arts, the Marshal of the Pomorskie Voivodeship, the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage (2011), and Fundacja Wyszehradzka (2012).
